The Garden
Journal Entry: Sun Jun 3, 2007, 8:30 AM
As I've briefly mentioned before, I've been planning a series influenced by the concept of Adam and Eve. (in the platform of the Garden of Eden )
The obvious symbolism of the tale is the folly of man, through his/hers fall in temptation.
Which - in consist terms - practically demands perfection of character, in order to enjoy paradise. Which in itself is ironic, since the G man has so much of a tendency to force ultimatums, and fall under his own flaws in the form of wrath.
You can not - morally - dictate a group of individuals to live up to a state of perfection that you do not attest yourself.
Anyway, for the only applied dictator in positive contexts, G is not such a bad guy. But the big guy has some issues.
I decided to include the folly of God, as well as the folly of man in this comic.
The story.
Adam took a bite out of the apple, and probably blamed it on Eve. ( God created man in his image. A side note, God created a woman out of Adams ribcage. "I'm bored G, throw me a bone". God told Adam to keep his God Damned mouth shut.
So now we have a contemporary - and very generic - society, filled with materialism and faith in the almighty dollar, rather than faith in the almighty... well, you know.
G decides to recreate The Garden to figure out what the hell went wrong.
A guy called Eddy, a woman called Eva. They run the show in the Garden now.
I decided to make - in a sense - a sequel to The Garden of Eden, so I would have the ability to include as many biblical references as possible, and also include some pop culture. ( what the hell for? well, I guess everyone does. writers block tends to force it )
Introducing Jesus. I went with the more neurotic pro crucifixion character, based on the events illustrated by the subtle anti-Semite Mel Gibson. A man who fucked up the perception of the bible in a way deserving of a medal.
The events of how Jesus was crucified was a implication of his meaning. Forgiveness. ( of the sins )
The implication was NOT meant to be a snuff show, forcing people to believe through sympathy and guilt. If all religious folk had a belief driven by those reasons, it would remove the purpose of faith and religion.
With that said, I don't inhabit that particular faith. I'm just pissed off because the Road Warrior/Riggs/Wallace turned out to be such a prick.
What I've produced so far ( and mind you, I'm writing this down for my own sake as much as for the three people who are going to read it ) is pretty stale and dry.
It's a dull process; I just draw a few frames, play around with the characters and backgrounds, and finally throw in something that will resemble a joke ( or at least some sort of relevant punchline ).
Getting to know the concept and trying to find out if I like it.
